Bowling Fundraiser a Success for Guardia
On Friday, June 4th, voters of all ages joined 9th Essex District State Representative candidate Anthony Guardia at the Wakefield Bowladrome for a night of music, food, and fun. People from across the district came to the sold out event to show not only their bowling skills, but their support for the Guardia campaign.
“The amount of support I’ve received is very gratifying,” said Guardia amidst the constant clash of bowling pins. “This amazing turnout shows how eager people are to change the status quo in their district.”
Among the voters present was 21 year old Amy Sinclair from Saugus, attending her first political event. “I had a lot of fun. I’m definitely going to get involved in the campaign.”
Political Veterans were also in attendance, including Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Commissioner Jack Warchol, who was pleasantly surprised by the event. “This is so creative, typical Guardia. This is the first ever political event that I brought my little nieces to, and definitely the one I’ve had the most fun at.”
The filled lanes of supporters were treated to refreshments, music from local band Yankee Power, and an impassioned speech from Guardia, who referenced Gandhi’s four steps to victory: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, and then you win.”
“When we started this race a lot of people ignored us. As we knocked on more doors, held more signs, and talked to more voters, they started to laugh at us. So we did more doors, held more signs, and talked to more voters. Well now we have their attention, and they’re fighting us. Our critics are questioning our resolve, calling me an amateur and my supporters a bunch of ‘whining minions.’ If that’s what they call advocating for the condition of our schools, the quality of life for our seniors, and the betterment of our communities, well then I can’t wait for the next step. You know what that next step is? We win. We’re going to do more doors, hold more signs, talk to more voters, and we’re going to win in September and November.”
