Guardia Campaign Kick-Off a Resounding Success

Anthony Guardia, Democratic candidate for 9th Essex District State Representative, held a campaign kick-off event on Friday, February 26th. Over 200 people filled the Saugus Knights of Columbus to show their support, including friends, family, elected officials, and supporters of all ages.

“I am truly humbled by the support I’ve received,” said Guardia after the event. “The amazing turnout here and the warm reception I’ ve received when meeting people throughout the district shows that people are tired of waiting for the problems that face our community to be fixed.”

In his speech, Paul Dinocco, a Wakefield Selectman and IBEW Union member, spoke to how Guardia has effect change in his hometown of Wakefield. “[Guardia] was part of a team that was instrumental in creating the Wakefield Energy Conservation Committee, which worked with local experts to sign an energy efficient contract, saving taxpayers money while also helping the environment.”

Also speaking at the kick-off were Wallace McKenzie, a Lynnfield business leader and community activist, and Sean Grant, a long time Laborer’s Union member and former State Rep. candidate. Each spoke to how Guardia is a strong candidate because he is more in touch with the local issues facing the district than the incumbent, noting Guardia’s higher percentage of donations from supporters within the district.

In his speech, Guardia spoke directly to the people of the district. “I will win this election because this is not my campaign, it is yours. This is your campaign to tell everyone that no amount of money can buy this seat, that special interest endorsements and out of town lobbyists cannot tell you what is best for your hometown, and that hard work, idealism, and a focus on local issues is what you want in your state representative. “

Guardia also spoke to some of the criticism he faces. “Some have told me I should not run, that “I should wait my turn,” as if politics were some sort of competitive game. This is exactly that type of cronyism that is insidious to progress. I will not stand by and wait my turn while our communities are struggling. ”
