Guardia Applauds Massachusetts State Building Authority
Anthony Guardia, Democratic State Representative Candidate for the 9th Essex State District, applauds the decision of the Massachusetts State Building Authority to approve $190,000 for the Center for Performing Arts, and to move forward on a feasibility study for the Galvin Middle School.
The decision comes after many local officials, including Guardia, toured the Center of Performing Arts and the Galvin Middle School with State Treasurer Tim Cahill, State Representative Katherine Clark, and Massachusetts State Building Authority (“MSBA”) Executive Director Katherine Craven.
This was the second visit for Representative Clark and MSBA Director Craven, who joined Guardia at the Center for Performing Arts a few weeks ago. As a Wakefield School Committee member, he is acutely aware of the unfinished status of the Center, as well as continuously worsening conditions at Galvin Middle School, which was built in 1954.
"I receive dozens of phone calls weekly from Wakefield residents, who are concerned about the conditions of these facilities," Guardia said.
Guardia has continuously reached out to other elected officials to share Wakefield residents' concerns. He is gratified by the attention received this week. “I want to applaud the efforts of Katherine Clark, Katherine Craven, and Treasurer Cahill for organizing these tours and visiting Wakefield. My colleagues on the School Committee and many community leaders have been tireless advocates of these projects for years. It was the work of people like John Encarnacao, Steve Maio Sr., and Phil McCarty that got us where we are today.”
Guardia continued, “With the approval of the feasibility study for the Galvin Middle School, and the Saugus School Building Committee working with the SBA for similar funding for the Belmonte Middle School, this is just the start to make sure these schools receive the funding they need and deserve. As your state representative, I will be actively involved both on Beacon Hill and in our communities to make sure these projects are a priority.”
