In 2006 the legislature determined that for every city and town, at least 17.5% of their education budget would be funded by the state. Since then, 58 school districts of the Commonwealth’s 400+ school districts have yet to be funded at the agreed upon level of 17.5%.

Bowling Fundraiser a Success for Guardia
On Friday, June 4th, voters of all ages joined 9th Essex District State Representative candidate Anthony Guardia at the Wakefield Bowladrome for a night of music, food, and fun. People from across the district came to the sold out event to show not only their bowling skills, but their support for the Guardia campaign.

Anthony Guardia announces Wakefield Supporters, Refutes Falzone’s List
Anthony Guardia, candidate for State Representative in the 9th Essex District, today announced his list of supporters in the town of Wakefield for the upcoming election. This follows a press release by incumbent Mark Falzone of his Wakefield supporters, many of whom have decided to switch their support since Guardia announced his candidacy in February.

There is a drug problem in the 9th Essex District.
Data compiled by the Department of Public Health and presented to the Saugus School Committee in November is stunning. When compared to surrounding communities- Lynn, Malden, Melrose, Revere, Salem, and Wakefield- Saugus had the highest per capita hospitalization rate for heroin abuse and other substance abuse. Lynn had the most individuals hospitalized for heroin and other substance abuse. Inaddition, two heroin dealers have been arrested in Wakefield over the past few weeks...

The current budget situation in Saugus is divisive to a good community.
The School Committee recently approved a budget increase of $2.5 million over last year’s budget. The Town Administration initially offered the School Department a budget increase of $450,000. The budget has since been bumped up to $960,000 by Town Administration to avoid personnel layoffs. To do this, the Town Manager had to under fund other line items giving Saugus a built-in deficit in its overall budget. Further, other departments are in desperate need of funding, for example the Saugus Public Library is only $141,000 away from recertification.

Anthony Guardia announces candidacy for 9th Essex District State Rep.
Anthony Guardia, Chairman of the Wakefield School Committee, announced today that he will run as a Democrat for State Representative for the 9th Essex District. Guardia has served on the committee for four years and has been its chairman since April 2009. “As an elected official in Wakefield, I see firsthand the problems our cities and towns have had to deal with,” says Guardia. "I believe it’s time that we had a strong voice on Beacon Hill who is focused on solving issues important to the district."
